Art Deco Silver Plique-a-Jour Enamel Eagle Brooch

AU $795

A fabulous Art Deco “Egyptian Revival” brooch from the 1930s.
Following the fascinating discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922, with its vast trove of untouched treasures from the ancient world, an egyptian-inspired aesthetic took the world by storm. This gorgeously striking brooch is a wonderful example – combining Art Deco geometry with classic egyptian motifs.
Most likely German-made, the brooch is crafted in high-purity 935 silver, decorated with colourful plique-a-jour enamel. Sparkling marcasites adorn the edges of the wings and the legs, while a carved green chrysoprase scarab sits at the centre, forming the eagle’s chest.
The detail is exquisite, from the delicate milgrain detail to the very fine cross-hatched etching of the bird’s head – and even his glinting red eye!
The brooch fastens securely with its original rollover clasp, which bears silver hallmarks from the mid-late 1930s.
Highly collectable, this wonderful Art Deco brooch is a piece to delight any connoiseur of vintage jewellery.
