Antique Norwegian Gilt Silver Filigree Brooch
A beautifully ornate antique wirework “solje” brooch by Oslo workshop Norsk Filigransfabrikk.
Crafted from solid 830 silver and gilded (gold coated), this gorgeous brooch dates from the late 1800s to very early 1900s.
It is designed as a traditional solje (sun) brooch, the free-hanging elements creating lots of movement, flashing and shining as they catch the light. Believed to bring good luck to the wearer, solje brooches have been a popular part of the Norwegian jewellery tradition for centuries, heirloom pieces often handed down from mother to daughter for generations.
The work in this brooch is so intricate, combining fine openwork filigree with beautiful cannetille, finished off with the shimmering tear drops. The effect is quite breathtaking!
In excellent condition with all wirework and gilding intact, this stunning antique piece is ready to bring sunshine (and a little luck!) to a new proud owner.
